P-38 Prototype

Here is an opportunity to make a unique boat tailored to your specifications at a very reasonable cost.

The Maine Cat P-38 was our prototype “trial horse” for the new production Maine Cat P-47.  The P-38 fuel efficiency is even better the P-47 and her construction utilizes 1” thick Bead and Cove Core-Cell closed cell composite with hand laid triaxial glass in vinylester resin.  The P-38 has an LOA of 42’-6”, DWL of 40’-6”, and her beam is 17’-0”.   Full load displacement is 23,000 pounds.

To facilitate sea trails, the hull was given a temporary plywood deck and a small wheelhouse.  The P-38 is powered by a pair of D-3 Volvo common-rail 160 hp diesels with ZF 63 straight reverse gears.  She includes our standard Evolution Marine EMSS oil lubricated shaft system with Michigan DJX 3-bladed bronze props.  Also included are Centex waterlock mufflers, small graduate fiberglass fuel tanks, engine controls and Felsted control cables, Coursemaster hydraulic steering, Dickinson propane cabin heater with aluminum LP tank.  Two (2) AGM starting batteries, disconnect battery switches and small distribution panel in doghouse.  Eight (8) cleats and four (4) chocks are located on deck for handling lines.  The video on the right shows the amazing level ride of the P-38 .

Maine Cat is offering this unique vessel, “as is”, for $169,000.00 ready to be powered away to be finished by the yard of your choice or completed finished in our shop this winter for $542,900.00 fully commissioned per the following list of Maine Cat P-38 Specifications date November 19, 2009.   Either way, this is a fantastic vessel that lends itself to a variety of possible boats – a fairly simple “day boat” in the Maine tradition, an all-out cruising boat (per the specs below), a small party charter fishing boat or a USCG certified passenger boat for day trips.  Maine Cat would love to work with you to finish the P-38 to fit your requirements.
